Recreation Unlimited currently serves over 3,000 individuals with disabilities representing up to 14 physical and developmental disability groups from 44 counties in Ohio and five surrounding states. Recreation Unlimited is the largest provider in the state of Ohio serving individuals with disabilities in the area of sports, recreation and education with the most comprehensive and quality program offerings.
The year-round 195 acre, wheelchair accessible campus features three major residence halls, a private cottage for retreats, life-time arts building, multi-purpose lodge, outdoor pavillion, health services center and nurses quarters, outpost camp site, administrative and support buildings. Outdoor sports facilities include an aquatic center, track and field, tennis and sports court, softball field, golf hole, 25 ft. tree climb, two challenge courses and a 50 ft. Alpine Tower.
The spacious cedar facilities interconnect with a comprehensive system of nature trails with observation points for viewing waterfowl and wildlife. Over four miles of hard surfaced accessible trails are available. A seven-acre lake, accessible stream trail, prairie, forest, natural amphitheater and shelters provide an ideal environment for nature programs and outdoor education activities.
Coming in July 2008, a new 20,000 sq. ft. Life Center will be opened that will include an environmental center, multi-sensory room, multiple breakout and assembly rooms, and a gymnasium with climbing wall. |

The Germain Motor Co. in Columbus has been praised for its generous financial support to the community. The company has been involved with such organizations as Recreation Unlimited, Salvation Army Toy Drive, Toys for Tots, American Cancer Society and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In addition, Germain associates sit on boards at the Keith Byars Foundation, AM VETS, Goodwill, the Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Columbus Zoo development board and the list goes on.
Germain made nearly $149,000 in cash contributions to nonprofits last year including donated lease payments for Hurricane Katrina victims at a value of $34,296. It also gave four cars to the Ohio State University Athletic Department at a value of $25,000.
“The Germain Motor Co. has been involved in nonprofit organizations within the Columbus community virtually since the company’s inception in 1947,” says Rick Germain, the company’s chief operating officer. “As our company has grown over the years, so has the scope of our involvement within the community.”
